Internet-Free Zone

Hot dog!  I know what the name of my coupon book will be.  Came to me during Monday's writing session and I am thrilled.  You know when something just fits?  And you can't stop smiling?

That's how I feel.

Meanwhile, as of last Friday, my writing desk returned to an Internet-Free Zone.  I mistakenly thought my online coupon computer, could work in the same space as my writing.  Only the two stations weren't getting along.

So I moved my writing desk and laptop under the bar that faces my lab, and my online computer is behind me, sitting on the coupon station.  This setup works so well for me that the title of my book/zine popped into my head during my first writing session this week.  Almost like it had been there all along, only I was too distracted to notice.

But now that I'm back to proper scheduled writing sessions, at my beautiful writing desk, my world makes sense again.

Now, if you'll excuse me.  Frankenberry just did the morning monster shuffle down the hall, and I want to get him fed and out the door.  I've got major food writing to do today, and I don't want him eating the test batches before I snap photos.  Not that I've ever done that, myself.

You Buttnuts have a good one.  Cheers and boogie boogie.

  1. So you're not going to tell us what you've decided to name your first book? Such a tease, Ivy.

    1. This isn't my first one, but it will be my first couponing book unless I go zine. No, not yet on the name. Want to get it done first, as the last two books I wrote, I've done nothing with.

Though I am actually a published writer of non-fiction, interviews, Q&A, and profiles, from back in the day. Though I don't talk much about my writing.

      Cheers and boogie boogie.

  2. I had a home office once. I was never in it. I liked to write in front of the TV. Weird, huh?

    1. I'm learning more and more writers like to have TV or a movie on. What makes it work for you?

  3. I know EXACTLY how you feel. I've felt that way when the ending of my last book finally (FINALLY) came to me. Couldn't stop smiling. Did little dances around the house. I think I live for those moments. :)

    1. So great to read this comment. It's like you said, just want to do little dances. I feel like Snoopy.

And I find now that I have the title, I want to work harder on the book (unless I go zine), but there's that okay, I know where this is going. This feels right.

      I love it.

How did the books before your last one go? Did you have any where you knew the title before writing?

  4. I always have the TV on or movie as I do my art.
I think it is from all the years of working at the studio or later with children running amok around me.
But I still do my best work late at night with the TV on very low. From all the years I had to work after the children were in bed.
    One alarming thought....
How do you work UNDER a bar, I thought that is were one ended up after drinking to much.
I can see you writing laying on your stomach stretched out under the bar. hahahahaha

    cheers, parsnip

    1. I'll have to snap a picture so you can see. My writing desk tucks right under the bar. We don't ever use it as a bar.

What do you like to watch when you do art?

  5. The only background noise I can have while writing is classical music/movie soundtracks. Everything else is far too distracting. Music with lyrics gets my brain singing along and not writing.

Congrats on the internet free zone. That is fantastic. I love the internet but I love having time without it. Sometimes when I'm writing I'll have John look up something I need, so I don't get distracted.

    1. I've never liked writing to noise. Mostly I like silence. Though I will listen to classical or yoga bamboo flute music. But TV, never.

This is how my writing desk was before, Internet-Free, but when we moved all our office stuff I thought I'd try something different.

      Did not work.

  10. An internet-free-zone is exactly what I need. I'm positively hopeless sometimes. What I think will only be 5 minutes on the net, more often than not turns into 50 ... and more. Much much more.

    Happy writing.

    1. I know what you mean about time. It zips by so fast sometimes, I cannot even believe it.

I felt clustered, there wasn't enough room on one desk for coupon crap and writing stuff. Things got too messy and I like a nice clean bench, and the start of each session.

  14. The author can't write until the space is just right. (I really need to do something with my office. Creative juices aren't flowing like they should.) Glad you've got the name and may your day be happy and productive.

    1. Yeah, I thought I'd try something new but the coupon online stuff and the writing stuff, they don't get along so well. Plus, I felt crowded. Now there's two clear work stations. And I flippin' love it.

  16. And you have good one. I have an internet free zone quite often. The dog takes over the internet and sends me to the garden......

  17. I can never get the reply button to work on this site. Wonder why? Anyway, to answer your question about my titles, some came to me before the book, some came to me after, and one came to me from someone else! Never the same. However, I DO come up with a title before I start writing (doesn't mean I stick with it, though). It really does help with the motivation.

Very cool about your titles, thanks for stopping back and answering. Writing is such fun stuff.

  20. Ooooh...suspense and excitement from your end! Can't wait to hear more about your book...and the mystery title.

I actually imagine your hubby coming down the hall grumbling for food...LOL... I bet you filled him right up with some good food.

    1. Been working on this for awhile without a title, though I figured it would come sooner or later. Really glad though that it showed up. Kind of sets things more in motion.

Loved the video on your blog today. Showed Tim tonight. I got all well-up both times.
