Even if It's Scary

By the end of this week I wanted to have a how-to bake post done.  Only I must not have wanted it bad enough because it's not ready.  It's not even the baking part that's the problem.  I could write and test bakes all ding dong day long.  It's the getting the post ready part.

It's very easy for me to write and test a bake, snap a few pictures and show it off, then quickly move onto the next bake.  But to sit and write each recipe in a way other people can understand and use them, is not my strongest area.

Time to change that.

I love writing them at my kitchen table, but I need to make the transition to the online world.  Start posting on Reddit and oh my gosh, I don't want to, but maybe even a Google+ account.  Maybe I'll write a food zine.  But the one that scares me the most, shoot a video from my kitchen.

Just writing about it now, I'm uptight and nervous.  So erase, erase, erase, and next week, I move forward.

Even if it's scary.

  3. Hate to break it to you, but you ARE in the online world. What do you call this blog? Just have fun doing whatever you end up doing. If not, it will show.

    1. You are most correct, I am. But I don't get out there and mix it up, or push myself to gain readers. And I love baking and think a show would be tons of fun. But it scares the CRAP out of me.

    1. If you ask one of my past teachers and now friend, she would say nothing. Just focus on what I love and go with it.

      But I am chicken.

    2. Yes, but most people here aren't cooks not bakers and they will see you as a baking expert no matter what your result is :), so there is no need for stagefright :)

  5. What ever keeps you happy is what you should choose, often though what seems scary and daunting at first becomes easier after your first attempt as you realise that you no longer have a need to fear it as you have just accomplished what you feared

    1. Thanks for the thoughtful comment and wonderful words. I am hoping this is what happens, that once I do it, I'll love it and not be scared anymore.

  6. I can relate to this post. There are times I'd love to take more pictures in my house but hesitate. Not because I'm afraid people will figure out who/where I am but rather the silly stuff. Will people judge my kitchen? My carpet? Silly, huh?

    1. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and fears, Elsie. This is helpful and much appreciated.

Yes, I think we are both silly. Silly, silly.

  7. I think it takes practice to write directions so other people understand them. Good luck.

    1. Good point and very true. And then doing it on a video so that it makes sense as well, will take me some practice.

    1. For my own collection, I have pages and pages, already written. Now, to get them to make sense to others. That's where the trick is for me.

  10. Relax. Whatever, whenever, however. It will happen. And then your readers will be so happy with the results. I, too, struggle with writing recipes so that others can understand. If you let me sample, I'll write the damn thing for ya. LOL! Cheers!!

    1. The writing part is not my biggest challenge, since I write them all the time for myself. Mostly it's the seeing the entire process through, to a finished post and THEN, not being scared and start shooting videos.

Which is where I want to go, but first I need to get out of my own way.

  15. Have you thought about other ways of getting information out there? You Tube? I know I go to You Tube when I need to learn something. You could even have a blog with You Tube videos!

    1. Hi Birdie - Yes, that's what we're going for a YouTube Cookery Show. I think, once I get passed being scared that it will be a fun use of my time.

  16. It is good to know what you want to do, that is sometimes the hardest part. Admitting it is the second. Now you just have to figure it out in your own way when and how. And be very forgiving of yourself. There is a learning curve involved but I know you can do this. If anyone can, it's you!

  18. Girl, I hate to tell you this, but there's always going to be something in life that scares you. If you stop trying, you'll turn into Crazy Cat Lady. We don't want that. Start with something simple--like those yummy looking things at the top of the page. You can experiment with me. If I can't understand (and remember, I am a hillbilly), you'll know what you need to tweak!
