Wish Me Luck - I'm Going In

I've been awake since five this morning, just staring at the ceiling. So I figured, eh, might as well get cracking on today's project which includes making pizzelles. Usually, I make them year-round, all the flippin' time. But because of recent health issues and the fact that melted butter (this time last year anyway), sent my skin into rash and itching, I haven't made any.

For Tim's job next week, they have Goody Day and I am the pizzelle maker. Which brings me to today, when I test if I can handle melted butter or not. Health-wise, much has improved over the last year. Even when sprinkled with setbacks, overgrowth, infections and other buggers, on the whole -- many great leaps forward.

For instance, I no longer have chronic spinal issues. After years of being bent like a pretzel (born that way), I now rarely hurt. I haven't had a problem walking in forever (knock on a skeleton's skull), and I can eat more than two bites of food each meal. Which is a bonus because with all the cooking and baking, it's a relief to eat my foods again.

But I digress. And I just heard Frankenberry's alarm go off. Gonna whisk up a batch of fresh palacsintas (Hungarian pancakes), for breakfast and then get crackin' on a small test batch of pizzelles to see if I pass the melted butter test.

Wish me luck, I'm going in.

    1. Thanks. Your bread looked wonderful. Will you be able to eat Shoppe-bought after that?

  2. I love hearing about you doing well. Good stuff. And I also love your expression "knock on a skeleton's skull". I've got to start using that one. It'll make some people laugh, I'm sure.

  11. If you can get really better without eating certain foods, then that's fine. You are one of the most positive persons ever.
Looking forward to the butter result, very much hope it is good.

    1. Happy to report, the melted butter did not cause a skin rash and more importantly, it didn't close my throat. Hot dog, I won.

  12. good luck Ivy! Would wearing gloves help? My hairdresser developed an allergy to hair dyes so he wears gloves unless his assistant can help out.

    1. Hi Christine. For sure wearing gloves helps when I am dealing with chemicals, corn or gasoline.

But for the melted butter, it's airborne issue as it has in the past, closed my throat and brought on rashes.

Happy to report, none of that happened yesterday.

Sorry to hear about your hairdresser. Really, I'm surprised she can even work there. Hopefully it doesn't start to bother her breathing. I can tell you, that is NO FUN!

  15. I really hope it worked out for you! I have a friend who gets a rash if she eats butter/dairy products, but that must be very tough to potentially get a rash just from baking with it!

    1. Thanks, Bethany. Sorry to hear about your friend. Has she had it long?

For me, the melted butter in the air would close my throat and cause skin rash. Even melted cheese. But now I can be around both, though I won't eat either.

  17. I'm glad it went well. I never heard of having problems with melted butter before and melted cheese would be even worse.

    1. It's similar to those who cannot breathe around corn or gasoline (which is me as well). Same with cheese. Though now I can handle the cheese and butter, but still not the corn or gasoline.

      All in due time.

    1. It's just pie crust with fresh cherries and a little cornstarch (though some call it cornflour) and sugar mixed with the cherries. Hope you post a picture when you're done.

      Happy Eating.

    1. I should do a post about it one of these days. It might not work for everyone, but man, it's good not to be on constant pain. I still hurt though, time to time, but by we're no longer on the chronic condition list.

I wish you less pain in the coming year. Sounds like you're on the right track though, feelinb better than a year ago.

  21. Ivy ... I've not known you, and your great blog that long, but reading through your post here I am just so pleased to hear about the improvement you've had, so well done.
I really feel as if the words should be stronger than well done because you have persevered so much by the sound of it so I'll put it in capital letters WELL DONE.
Seriously I do so enjoy my visits to your blog and seeing what you've been up to.

May you have a brilliant weekend and take good care of yourself.

    All the best Jan

I admire how much you care for your honey bunny and make him all kinds of safe foods to eat. There's nothing like that kind of lovin'. You are one good cookie, make that, one good low-carb cookie.
