Chubba Bubba Mondays: Energized

Long before working in the food industry, I was headed toward nutritional journalism, specializing in healing whole foods and herbs.  I changed course, got sick and now I'm right back where I was, using whole foods and herbs to heal.

Only now I juice.

I started juicing not to lose weight, but instead to try and give my body a fighting chance by supplying my cells with powerful nutrients, as fast as possible.  Having and auto-immune disease isn't fun, and juicing was what I decided to try, in hopes of cleaning up my insides.

Understandably, lots of people do straight juicing, but I wasn't comfortable going that route.  So instead I incorporated juicing to my daily meals.  This was something that I could live with long-term, rather than burn out.

So now you know the history, it's time to do a little bragging.  This past week I have not been afraid to run out of food, and therefore been eating all those good nuts that we paid for.  My feet no longer look like they belong to Barney Rubble.  Swelling continues to decline and not only do I have ankle bones, but I'm in a 1.5 size smaller sneaker.

Had to buy smaller work pants and they are already big on me, so into the dryer they went.  This marks the first time in a long time that pants went to the dryer straight away.

Energy levels as of the last four days have been even, consistent and strong.  I'm back to house projects like redoing the fridge.  And thanks to Tim, we moved the living room into winter-mode and hung Halloween lights.

And lastly, I feel good.  Even though working in prep is still a challenge and I'm not ready for the treadmill yet, I love not being in constant pain.  And get this, the swelling around my eyes is down so much, that by gosh I have eyelids again.

It's been a good week.  How 'bout you?

Ethel's before shot.
Then I had to find room for my new buys.
Thanks to field mice, everything must be in the fridge.
Ethel's makeover - using veg boxes from Dollar General.

  1. Glad it's helping you feel better. I didn't know you had an auto-immune disease.

  2. Maybe I should try that with all of my body issues. Glad it is working.

    1. If you already enjoy fruit and veg, then you're half-way there. It's great fun.

  3. Having an auto-immune disease isn't fun at all. Hang in there, and keep juicing. :)

  4. Wow! You're doing great. Keep up the good work.

Me? I'm still exercising, but the weight stayed the same from last Monday. Guess I should be glad I exercised!!! Haha!

One last thing - it should be against the law to have a refrigerator that clean. Just saying... :)

    1. Woohoo to exercise. Great on not gaining this week. Go you.

One last thing - I laughed out loud when I read your one last thing. If it helps, my writing desk is in need of a redo, it's just piled with non-fiction books.

  7. If it's working for you, just keep on juicing! There's nothing fun about not feeling well. Your body is obviously thanking you for loading it up with all this healthy, power-packing nutrition. For our body to work as well as it can, it needs that type of fuel. I tend to slack off a little in the summer, although I do garden and spend a lot of time outdoors walking and moving around. Come next week, I'll be back on the treadmill and my daily exercise routine. By the end of September, I'll be back to my fully-powered self again.

    1. Here's to us both being our fully-powered selves again. And yes, I agree, we need this type of fuel and nutrients. Just gives the body a proper chance to heal.

  8. Your fridge has a name? :)
I love beet! Love to make soup from it in the winter, just beet, garlic and celery leaves! I usually make it extra thick and add a dollop of sour cream in the plate :)

    1. Your fridge doesn't have a name? My juicer has a name as well. Her name is Lucy.

Love beets and celery together. Just took pictures of a combo like that for an upcoming post. Though I added raw garlic to mine - very nice.

    2. and that soup is also such an extraordinary diuretic it cleans away all of the toxins .... Your poop will be purple, though, after it, but who cares :)

    3. Purple Poop. Now there's a blog post title. Maybe no pictures for that post.

  11. Wow, your fridge is so neat and organized! And you're making me think of incorporating juicing into my diet. Will a blender work or do you need an actual juicer?

    1. I started with a blender but then grew tired of drinking the chunks, plus my blender sucked. So I was after a restaurant grade VitaMix, but it was too expensive. So I went Juicer.

Love it. So great and most drinks are smooth. The fiber though is missing from the drinks, so that's something to consider when you decide which way to go.

But I gotta say, love it, love it, love it.

  12. I am new to your blog so I have some questions. How long have you been doing this and how long will you to continue? Do you eat solids?

Losing a shoe size! I have never heard of tha before. Awesome!

    1. Welcome to my blog, Birdie - should you stick around you'll find we are good group here. Lots of great Bloggers.

As for how long, I had to check and today is day 38 with Lucy (my juicer). Though I don't bother to keep track anymore as juicing is now part of my lifestyle - where I continue to incorporate juicing with my daily meals.

Yeppers, new sneaks. Got 'em on right now. They are wildly comfortable.

    1. I added six veg boxes and they are working great. These are similar to my bake boxes, only those have clear lids. Must do a post about them, as I have the pictures ready.

Congrats on your exercising. Go you. I hope to be doing that again soon myself.

Having lots of fun doing activities. It's a hot one out today, going to be drinking lots of water while I'm out.

  16. This is certainly the way to go it seems. The change in how you feel is what I find most interesting. God knows I need an energy boost as I'm exhausted most times.

  17. I wish I could take you home with me and juice me up. I have such bad nutrition, and the funny thing is I used to be a professional chef. From whole foods, and macrobiotics, to eldercare and weddings. I know what I "should" eat, and never do. I'd be afraid to show you my fridge.

But hey, keep up the good work. That's great you're feeling better. And I hear you on throwing pants in the dryer because they're too big. So go you!

    1. Curious how we get away from what we once were. That's where I was before juicing.

Wish I could teleport the drink I'm having now. So very good.

PS: Do you miss being a chef?

  19. OMG. Do I ever understand auto immune disease, having grown up with a parent with lupus...and my mother in law has MS. You are totally doing the right thing! I'm glad its helping.

I am still dead tired and should probably not be online. Oh well. Its a short week!

And I want my fridge to look like your fridge!

    1. The veg boxes were only a buck each @Dollar General. Not too shabby, and they're sturdy enough for my fridge.

MS and Lupus, yikes and double yikes.

Glad you have a short week, hope you get some of that there rest soon.

  21. Glad you're feeling better HW. I've been juicing too and the first few days of detox leaves me so thirsty, it's like I'm constantly parched. But I always feel good in the long run.

    Here's to good health :)

  22. Hi Happy Whisk,

I can see that you have a Happy fridge too! You are so well-organised. I'm not exactly a juice person and rather eat the whole fruit than just the juice. I need the fiber for some reasons :p

    1. Yes, fiber is important and thankfully I get plenty. Mostly I juice veg, not fruits. And then I use the veg as medicine. Super powerful stuff.
