Better Boring than Bloated

Last night we hit Applebee's, where they serve mostly ding ding foods, filled with more salt than the ocean.  I still had nice time with family, but my choices were limited.  Ordered a plain baked potato (no salt, cream or butter), along with a plate of lettuce and a bit of dressing.  And a bite of Tim's burger, which was good but holy cow bells, salty.

Anyway, after supper we hit the Shoe Depot for new sneakers and I kid you not, I went down 1.5 in size,  compared to the sneaks I currently had on.   And, and, and ... I'd been working all afternoon in the kitchen at work.

When we got back in the car I said to Tim, "My meal might have been boring, but better boring than bloated."

    1. Hey Chris - This is how I always ate before I got sick. Well, not the juicing, that part is new and I'm currently using it as medicine to get my insides back rolling right.

    2. I hope it works for you (the juice bit). I actually saw a documentary about juice-fasting not long ago, and the apparent health benefits of it really wowed me. Fingers crossed!

    3. Which documentary did you watch? I watch a good bit of them. Enjoy them a great deal. Did you see the movie Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead?

    4. Yep, that's the one! "Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead." We watched that one and a few other vegan-related ones just before going vegan/whole foods. I think some of the vegan titles were "Forks over Knives" and "Vegucated." There may have been one or two others, but I can't remember the titles.

    5. I enjoyed Forks over Knives as well. don't think I've seen Vegucated.

Have fun gaming with the Goobers tonight. Thanks for stopping back. Cheers and boogie boogie.

  2. You're losing weight in your feet!
Still not sure about your breakfast, but the Jalapeno makes it sound better.

  3. You are so right. Isn't it odd how foods from nature don't leave us bloated??? It seems our body puts those foods to good use instead of them just sitting around making us fat! Good for you. Love the puppy paw. :)

    1. And screwing up our insides and making me sick. So ... back to where I was before all this started. That's Wiggy. She just loves the camera, even if it's just her puppy paw.

  4. Recently I discovered Sweet Potato Juice. No, I am serious. Mixed with apples and carrot juice it is not only darn tasty but has alot going for it. High potassium, high! vitamin A and no cholesterol.

Drawbacks? Naturals sugars and carbs (yeah, even in juice form) can be kind of high. It is a good breakfast or before a workout juice.

    And it looks cool!

    1. I juice sweet potatoes, yams and regular potatoes as well. Lots of fun to try combos. Glad you're enjoying them as well.

  5. Good for you for eating healthy! It will really pay off, and the more you do it, the more of a habit it will become. It'll get to the point where you won't want to eat too much crap. I've been eating better for years now. I spent a lot of time reading, researching, learning about eating well. Now, I can go into a restaurant and make decent choices on almost any menu. Almost. Some restaurants don't have that many good things to offer!

    1. Thanks, Martha - Whole foods eating is how I've eaten most of my life. The new part is adding juicing as medicine.

I agree on the menu and a place like Applebees, for me, just isn't what I want. I don't need all that salt. Forget everything else, just the salt alone will kill me.

      Thanks for stopping by.

    1. Isn't that weird? I had to wear the sneakers about the house all afternoon just to be sure. And tonight, my feet don't hurt. Woohoo.

      How's your back feeling?

  8. Sounds like a low sodium diet is doing wonders for you!

    1. I don't mind some salt, no biggie. But Applebee's has so much ding ding food, it's just screaming high with crap ingredients. Instead of being food, it's like-food.

  9. Adding the jalapeno to that juice for an extra kick is a great idea. Smaller shoes-yay!!

    1. I got a bunch for a great deal at the Farmer's Market so I thought I'd give it a go. The first time though, it was too hot. The second time, today, I had the balance right. Just a nice kick in the arse, kind of zing.

Good stuff. Up next, organic garlic.

  10. Pretty shoes! So cool when you feet shrink, huh? Mine grew after giving birth to two kids! I'll never see 9 again, but at least I'm not wearing Wide any longer! Got out of that when I lost 50 lbs about 10 years ago (which is still off, thank you very much - don't ever want to be that heavy again).

    1. Come on over anytime, I'd be happy to share. Yeah, Applebee's serves this like-food crap, but our location is always busy. Amazing since it sucks, too.

  14. jalapeno is definitely good for losing weight as all other spicy things. Cinnamon also, you can add a bit of cinnamon in your fruit juices and it will do wonders....

    1. We have lots of organic cinnamon in this house. Super yummy and healing, though I don't take it for weight loss. Nor the jalapenos. Those I tried because I had them on hand AND they help widen the blood vessels which enhances circulation. And if that wasn't good enough, they also stimulate the digestion.

Chiles are alright in my book.

    2. yep, I sometimes mix a pinch of cinnamon with a spoon of honey and use it instead of those poisonous industrial chocolate or caramel toppings over my icecream...

    3. Ever make your own caramel? So good, if you're allowed the sugar.

      Delete
    4. always wanted to, but melting sugar scares me :) I'm afraid I'd ruin the pot or burn something. I did melt brown sugar a couple of times (not to the point of caramelizing it) and poured cream over it to make caramel cream for cakes.

  15. Congrats at keeping it up, I can see how after leaving the route of prepared foods that you can find the taste less to your liking when you take a bite

    1. Thanks Ian - I've just gone back to eating how I did before getting sick. Though the juicing part is new - and what a fun new thing is it. I added red onion to my drink today. Very nice.

  16. That all looks healthy, but I'd be bloated from the gas, eating all those vegetables!

    1. I never get gas from veg or beans, but I was a whole foods eater most of my life. I hear though, others tell me the same thing, too much gas for them.

  17. Eating salt free is hard - especially when eating out. A friend had to cut the salt during pregnancy and restaurants had little for her. Definitely learned about how much salt is in a lot of foods. Even things marked "low sodium" still have so much salt. Keep up the good work, though! Your body is showing you how happy it is (1.5 down in shoes! Amazing!).

I'm not sure what the difference is, but the Applebees close to us is great. Great service, great food. I've never heard anyone say good things about other locations, but ours is a good one. (Of course, the food is high in cal and salt for sure, but I'm often there as a treat).

    1. Our location is super clean and friendly staff, nice little place, but it's all such ding ding foods. And I'm not a fan of that.

As for salt, some okay, sure, but have you looked at Applebee's salt on that link. Way high. Too high for even someone who isn't sick.

    2. I agree, fast food uses a lot of salt.
