2 Weeks without a Fridge

I've had a good time with this culinary challenge. And my reward, a brand new fridge for Christmas. She should be here later this afternoon.  Her name is Ethel and she's beautiful.

Meanwhile, here's our outdoor fridge. Thankfully, the stairs are packed with snow, so no critters got in our food.  But ... I did have to keep watch for the Scary Snow Monster.

Good thing I grew more ice wands.

  1. Good improvisation, and good luck - living without a fridge would be a pain in the summer. Congrats on the ice wands too! It sounds like planting in spring, but in reverse.

Also, if this isn't an experiment in the 'boobs' style, you might want to change the title.

  2. I had a lot of fun with this, for sure. But I'm soooo excited to get Ethel. Best Christmas gift, ever. Not at all sure what you mean about the title because it reads 12 Days without a Frig, on my end.

That's the truck. Ethel just got here. Hot dog. Life is good.

  3. Well, you sucked me in again. I was all prepared for something naughty only to find that you were talking about a fridge.

I guess I'm just a sucker for posts about boobs and frigging.

  4. That's a little funny. Just a typo. Thanks for explaining, Sean.

  5. Ha, you named your new refrigerator, that's funny. How great you have snow and cold to keep your food cold meanwhile!

  6. Tim just came home because Ethel and the guys are here and he said, "12 days without a frig." That's so funny. Nope just me not using the correct spelling.

Guys are unloading Ethel and she's beautiful.

  7. Hi Carol - It's is great just don't ask my husband what he thinks. Those ice wands whack him in the head. Or they drip down his back.

    Thanks for stopping by.

  8. Naming objects is a step towards treating them better, and fridges, computers, washing machines etc. really do need to be kept on side.

For me the best thing about getting a new one is finding out how much better it does things - generally - than the old. If you upgrade as rarely as I do, it's like a miniature industrial revolution every time.

You must be an especially Happy Whisk today and that's good to hear.

  9. I am, I am, I am. Now we gotta get some lunch. The fridge men (not the frig men), just left.

    Life is good.

  12. when I first saw the title of this I thought 'poor Ivy, Tim really owes her this Christmas', then I saw that you meant fridge. Sweet relief, (oops sorry about the pun). You picked the right season to be frigless, I mean fridgeless ;)

  13. Thanks mshatch. When we get the new stove I'll call him, Fred.

Sure is, Alex. 12 days of coolers was fun, but now I want to play with my new toy.

Hey Fran: Funny stuff. I'm thinking to myself, just what kind of blog am I running here, anyway. Boobs and frigging.

  14. Yay for new fridge! At least it's winter and nature provided you with a suitable temporary solution...even if there is a scary snow monster on the loose :)

  15. A good thing it's winter. I shudder to think what life would be like for 12 days without a fridge.

Hope you and Ethel are very happy together.

  16. Well done!

I love that you've named your new major appliance. I like namin' stuff, too. :)

  17. Those scary snow monsters are sneaky, Hayley. First, I cast Chester's repulsion spell but the creature resisted. So I had to pull out my big ice wand and cast the angry wife fear spell and sent his snowy little bottom running into the forest.

Hi Wendy: It really wasn't bad going 12 days. I enjoyed the culinary challenge and had some fun with it.

Hi Janna - they all get names. Even the new electric hand blender. His name is Barney. I got him a bit ago.

  18. We lost a fridge in the summer once... and the Heater in the depth of winter. Count yourself lucky and look on the bright side - Ethel will be a nice addition to the family. :)

  19. I tell ya, Risus. I had fun with the two week culinary challenge. It was fun to figure out what meals to make, living out of the fridge.

We've lost the heater during one of our winters, too. That, not so fun. But the replacement we got has kicked butt since.

And, Ethel is amazing. Love her. Totally worth the 2 week wait.
