The Great Declutter of 2016 (update)

Hello Boogerbutts!

This is my new laundry space and I love it. For those of you who don't already know, back in 2016 I did what Norma dubbed, The Great Declutter of 2016 - in which I ditched 95 percent of my stuff. Including cupboards that were too high and/or that I just hated.

And, since I won't be around Friday, let's toss in a WHAT AM I? Tell us what this is and win the prize of your choice.

That's right. This is a once in a blogtime offer. Pick your own prize. Dead bugs, rotten pickles and toe nail clippings are still available upon request.

WHAT AM I?

    1. Love that you call them cinnamon scrolls. Super fun name.

  3. Cinnamon roll for sure! I'll take a personal, in-home, all-day air-fryer demonstration.
    Your laundry room is big.

    1. I would do that prize in a second!

Laundry room is in the hall of the trailer. Feels much better now that I have the right shelf in there.

      Thanks for watching!

  4. I enjoyed your videos! Cinnamon bun is the mystery item?

    1. Thanks, Marie. I enjoy your photos! Cinnamon bun it is and not a dead bug prize in sight, as no one opted for such. I'm shocked of course, that nobody wants a gross prize.

I guess cinnamon roll-like thingy for the mystery item.

Oh yeah, I'm all about what works for us. And I LOVE folding socks now. Which is one thing that I used to hate. Turns out, I just needed a bench.

      Happy House Building to you!

  8. Cinnamon buns! :) Nice video...I'm just like you, function is more important than the way something looks. We have what looks like a huge house, but it's built very wonky and we barely have space for our things...it has to be functional. It's a rental though, we'll be moving next year hopefully. Your deck looks great, as soon as the weather gets warmer, I live the "porch life"!! :)

    1. Hi Rian. Yes, function so important. I get that from my grandma. Where did you get yours from?

Do you like to sit outside a lot? We do. The deck also opens at the kitchen. Nice and big. We own our trailer but rent the land. We'd like to own our land though.

Moving near your current home, next year or venturing further out?

    2. Well, we are in northern Quebec...moving to the Maritimes, likely Nova Scotia, I cannot wait!!! We're hoping to buy but if we can't get it together by next February, we'll still move and rent one more year.

I think I got my function obsession from managing depression actually! I had a bad burnout in 2003 and finally felt better in 2012 or so, after that I needed routine and function just to keep the anxiety down. :)

I LIVE outside from May through to October!!! :) I love the summer! I built my own screened-in porch last summer and that's my space. My boyfriend Alex screened in the upstairs balcony and hung his hammock there and that's his space. :)

    3. Screen-in is a great idea we get so many bugs here. I hadn't thought of doing that before you mentioned it.

Very cool that you gained such a valuable tool as function, during a darker time. I love that. Says a lot about your spirit.

We are outside back deck people. Tim and I bring our kitchen table out there to write and listen to music. Then I have a small cafe table that stays out all the time.

Great fun, this thing called nature!

  11. I wouldn't have known what it was, but cinnamon roll sounds about right. I know you are happy with your hallway, laundry/mud room so if it suits you that's all that matters, right?

    1. Cinnamon roll for the win. The prize of you choice, today.

Yes, we are of the thinking that a home should fit us, the owners. And having high cupboards just didn't fit.

      Thanks for watching, Jo!

  12. I think it's a cinnamon swirl too. Or a close up of my knee. How did you get that??

Cinnamon swirl for the win! No gross prizes this week. Unless, someone wants chocolate covered fire ants?

  14. I thought 'cinnamon roll' as soon as I saw the image and then scrolled down to see that just about everyone said the same thing. So now it's hard to say I though of it when I'm so late in the game. Looks like I'm cheating :)

I'm glad you are happy with your work space. My number one requirement is minimalism. If a place is overly cluttered, I go mad! LOL

So happy with the now mud room area. I've tried it many ways and then I put the baker's rack in, moved the washer to the left and bam, happy dance, as I fold.

Have you gotten your spaces the way you fancy in the new home? Took me awhile to get the laundry/mud room because I was using a different shelf that just didn't work.

I guess I will say it cinnamon roll.

  20. Just to be different . . . I think the mystery object is air-fried ham and eggs!!! Just kidding, of course, and please don't give me a booby prize; the regular prizes are bad enough :D

It is so lovely to have a place to fold laundry, isn't it? We have an old kitchen table beside our dryer. Function is important to me as well. In everything. Convenience saves so much time and energy and frustration. Well done, you! (and I laughed at Granny Annie's comment :))

    1. Hey Jenny! You win. And this week, everyone gets to pick their own prizes. Once-in-a-blogtime offer!

Conveniences, yes, it's a huge thing and practical too. For me, I don't want to have a bunch of cupboards that I cannot reach.

Life is too short for that bullcrap on toast.

I thought a swiss roll thing but it is obvs. a cinnamon bun, hurray! And I've also learned how to spell cinnamon, two n's and one m.
