Friday Question: FOOD

Before I got sick, I lived on whole foods. Then a chance to attend cookery school arrived, so I ate meat, dairy and eggs. But I never went to school. I got sick. This included intestinal parasites, edema, horrible infections and an immune system gone whack-a-do.

Even though having an excellent outlook, plant roots and being a recipe developer made giving foods up easier, I struggled with chicken. I liked it. It hated me. It was the last to go. At the time, I wasn't happy.

Friday Question:

What foods would you NOT want to give up?

  1. If I had to give up wine, it would be tragic. Altho, I guess wine is not a food. In that case, cheese would be hard to give up...I love it in all of its many forms!!

  5. it is actually a fact that after you stop eating meat your poop and sweat don't stink that nasty :)

Fruit and veggies would be tough to let go for me. I had absolutely no problem giving up meat ten years ago. It came in stages for me, first red meat, then chicken, then fish, then canned tuna, and now I'm ready to kick out dairy too, I don't like it much anyhows.
I've always thought giving up water would be hell, there are some illnesses in which you can't drink more than two glasses a day, I think that would put me in real hell.

  7. When I as diagnosed with diabetes a few years ago I cut my bread, rice, potatoes and cereal portions down to crazy small portions. I love bread so that has been the most difficult thing besides cakes, pies and most sweets to give up.

  11. If a particular food affected my good health then I would give it up without a second thought.
Although, like Dezmond I would be disconcerted (and surprised) if I had to give up drinking much water.

  13. I am currently trying to cut flour out of my diet, and it's really tough: I loves the breads!

Probably fish or seafood. Even if I go back to being a vegan (which I haven't been for 20 years), fish would be the last thing to quit.

  14. This is a really tough one. Fruit, maybe? I have fruit (often berries) every day. I would have said sugar a while ago, but I'm making better choices these days. I got very sick about 19 years ago and had to be on a clear fluids diet (and no food at all while in the hospital hooked up to something that "fed" me), so I know it is all possible. That doesn't make it any more pleasant however. I like so many different things! -Jenn

  16. Cheese. And probably dairy more generally.
As I lean more and more to vegan eating both will happen. But not quite yet.

  17. If a particular food or food group affected, or affects, my good health then it would go. I would give it up without a second thought. Health first every time.

As you know Ivy, my husband Eddie is a Type 2 Diabetic. We choose to live the LCHF lifestyle, no more than 50 carbs a day, also higher healthy fats with moderate protein intake. It works for him, it keeps his blood sugars normal ...it works for me, I feel healthy and energised.

    All the best Jan

  21. Dairy, including cheese. There are quite a few things I can't eat, and other things I don't want to eat, which leaves cheese, milk and yogurt as daily items on my menu. I'd have a hard time giving up grains, too, but dairy would be harder.

I'm sorry for your food restrictions. You seem to be striding right past that, though, turning out delicious original meals and baked goods one after another. You really do have an excellent outlook, as you said.

  22. I would not want to give up steak, although I don't like all cuts, rump is very popular and I dislike it. I'd also hate giving up most vegetables and fruits, bread, cheese and canned herrings, I love those things, and ice cream.

  23. with regards to peppylady above, I have several foods that sit in my stomach like a rock and I've had no trouble giving them up, although years ago if someone had told me to give up toasted cheese sandwiches I would have laughed in their face. But my stomach no longer likes them, so there it is. Gone forever from my diet.
