Less Stuff (more mice)

I'm long past done with decluttering. Now I'm enjoying our new space and figuring out where things go here and there. The kitchen/lab is the room I've moved about the most but as of yesterday, by George, I think I've got it. Not to even need those bottom cupboards, at all ...

Heaven, I tell you. Heaven.

PS: Here's the cartoon I posted earlier. Have a yummy weekend and boogie boogie.

  1. We have empty cupboards too. All my clothes fit on one side of a closet and two drawers. No, that's not true. I keep my work clothes on a shelf. I actually need to do another declutter. Mostly books.

    1. Do you enjoy it? Will you rip the cupboards out or keep them empty?

We've ripped out two, floor to ceiling cabinets, one entire closet, two hallway cabinets along with the middle shelf, the mantel and a bar. But this was awhile ago.

Kitchen cupboards will be going as well but not until we address a few other more important issues that need tended too.

      Happy decluttering of your books!

  2. Glad you're happy with your new decluttered space! Less is more and best, in my way of thinking. You should have a cat to take care of your mouse problem. :-)

  3. Decluttering gives one such a sense of accomplishment. Well done, HW.

  4. I hope you left a thank-you note for the mice.
Are you not a bit sad that you have nothing left to declutter?

    1. Noooooooooooo.

Once the decluttering is complete, there's a whole new world to work, play and live in.

  5. Good luck in the Mouse War! My Rare One fought an Epic War against mice in her garage a couple of years ago. Epic! She won, eventually, so it was all worthwhile.

  8. Hooray for the patching the holes. Let's hope the mice were all on the outside...

  9. I still have too much stuff (mostly books) but a lot less than I did and boy doesn't it feel better in my house.

  11. I can send my cats over if you'd like. They are ruthless hunters. Ruthless. They go from being all sweet and cuddly to foaming at the mouth when they hunt. Pretty scary.

With out move tons of stuff is being tossed, recycled and donated. I am doing a happy dance just thinking about it.

    1. I honestly ditched 95 percent of my own stuff. Don't need the space and the trailer feels huge to me. Some room even echo. Did you get back to decluttering?

  13. Hope you've solved the mouse problem! Somehow mice seem to be getting into our house as well. We've set a lot of traps, but caught none in them. We have caught two in the trash can though!

Great your kitchen is finally how you want it! I decided to give my extra stuff the coup de grace and bring down the tub I had in the attic. Most of it what's in it is papers I've kept for sentimental reasons. Now...I'm working on scrapbooks and having a lot of fun at it. I'll be really happy when I'm done--and have traded a tub for a few books!

    1. Hi Bethany. We got another one, thankfully. But still need to close more holes. If you want to use the peanut butter and bucket method, it's not nice but I've seen videos where it works. Right now, we're using the plain wooden USA made basic traps. I hope you get yours out of the house too. Little shits.

Yes, on the kitchen. My gosh, I moved that space around so many times.

I googled coup de grace, great term. Sounds like a fun thing to do, take those sentimental papers and turn them into scrapbooks. Very, very cool.

  15. You're so lucky to be done with the decluttering. Mine seems to be taking forever--but I got slowed down by a shoulder spur.

    Boo for the mice!

    1. Getting slowed down isn't easy, I can relate. Here's to getting back to the decluttering fun. Are you guys still looking for a bigger place?

    1. Thanks. Yes, I'd like to rip those cabinets out and sorta rebuild the kitchen ourselves. Make it more of a lab. How goes your decluttering? What's been the hardest and easiest things to ditch?

  17. I am so impressed by your decluttering results. My husband and I are both "savers" (aka packrats) and it's so hard to let stuff go. I buckled down a couple of years ago and got rid of a lot of kitchen items and clothing, but there's a lonnng way to go. I hope your mice visitors are a thing of the past now! They can get to be a problem pretty quickly - they reproduce so fast.

    1. Hey jenny_o, I used to be a safer as well, so I share your experience in that. Congrats on the first round, sounds like you made a big dent.

What's been your biggest challenge so far? And are you fixin' to further declutter?

Thanks, we caught a second mouse but still have more holes to plug. Ack.

    2. Biggest challenge - papers, books, kids little notes and artwork, etc. And yes, one of my two resolutions for this year is to get back to decluttering! I'm realizing -- if not now, when? I don't want our kids having to deal with any more than necessary when the time comes! And I'd like to enjoy a calm, uncluttered home for a few years at least :)

I think you have done brilliantly well with your de-cluttering, doesn't it make life simpler somehow

    All the best Jan

  20. I'm great at decluttering, well apart from when it comes to clothes, caps, trainers and bling, then I'll fill every available space I can find. Sigh.

    Good luck catching the mice.

    2. I cannot use my uppers from a seated position, so they are empty...Still coughing and clearing my head...
