Pick a Room - ANY Room

Today, I'm roasting seconds. They're tomatoes (or any produce), not good enough to sit on the table at the Farmer's Market. Often shunned to the ground, marked LOW (depending on the vendor).

They're bruised and dinked but make the BEST roasted tomato sauce in the history of ever. Bag bigger than me, 6 bucks.

In other news, I'm fixin' to kick it into high gear this week. Maybe even start painting. I don't care which room.

Pick a room, any room.

PS: I sent these texts to Tim. Right before I made the first one his profile picture on my phone. So fun!

  1. Ha! Love the pic--I'm sure he will too. And now I feel back for that shunned produce.

    1. Shunned apples make the best apple sauce (I find). Yum. He did laugh at the pic.

  2. Looks just like him!
I'd heard many grocery stores throw away food that doesn't look perfect. What a waste.

    1. Yes, some of the store/markets are trying to change that. Sadly, some are also selling at too high of a price. But the hometown market/stores, they have more flex space there to reduce the price to sell. Which is good.

  9. Perfect looking fruit and vegies often doesn't live up to its looks.
A bit like people isn't it?
I am pretty certain we discard the wrong things/people.

  11. When we lived in NC, there was a local farm growing tomatoes and we could get two huge buckets for $5. Only time I have ever done any canning. Made sauces and just canned some of the others.

  12. Everyone (everyone who can cook, anyway) should take advantage of those deals on less-than-perfect produce. Good for you, Ivy!

  17. Wow. I found a post I haven't commented on! I will have to remedy that disaster...

Sounds like you found a really good deal. And so glad someone could put the seconds to good use. A while back I picked up a sack of over-ripe bananas at the grocery store for a steal. Only a few of them were good enough to eat, but the rest made awesome banana cake!

  18. Hahahah, remedy that disaster. I love it. I also love banana cake. I use those spotty bananas for so many bakes.

    YUMMY.
