Friday Question: Ditching & Donating

Yesterday, I donated several good boxes of stuff to the local second hand store. Proceeds go to the pound and vet hospital. Both places keep their prices low. And our personal choice is always go with a pound puppy over a pedigreed, any day of the week.

Anyway .... most stuff was easy to donate, but when it came to donating gifts that were given to me, I felt a little bad. But we just don't have the room. More so, I don't want to extra stuff. Once I dropped everything off, those feelings of guilt vanished. Whoosh. Gone. I felt light and happy.

Today, I finished sorting the fabric and I'm happy to report that I'm down to a few boxes of prints that I love. No more of this, keep the fabric just in case business.

No more I say, no more.

Friday Question: Is it easy for you to ditch and donate? Do you ever feel bad about giving away a gift that someone gave you? Or, do you ever hold onto an item for that fan favorite reason of, just in case? Or, or, or, the other classic, because said item reminds you of a memory or person?

Do tell. Do tell.

  1. Well, I don't really donate items, just cash when appropriate.

  2. I would LOVE to donate more items, but the other resident objects.
I do donate books (not easy, but necessary).
And yes, we do have just in case things. And gifts. Even unwanted ones. Sigh.

    1. It's those just in case things, that I'm done with these days. But it took me awhile to get there because I kept telling myself, just in case I sew that or this.

      Do you sew?

  3. I am cheering you on for donating your items to a couple of worthy causes, Ivy! And I am glad that your guilt feelings of donating some gifts given you dissipated after you donated them. I do the same thing and it does feel good because we know that we are giving to a place where the proceeds are much needed.

    1. The shelter, second chance store and vet all are under the same business, different locations.

They help each other and the forgotten animals.

  4. I go in phases and ditch stuff one way or another. Nothing like bed bugs to make you get rid of stuff.

    1. Very true. Did you have to ditch anything that you really wanted to keep?

PS: We had asparagus again tonight.

    2. Nope nothing really difficult to get rid of.

We had asparagus too tonight. Recipe in tomorrow's blog.

    3. Yum.

I ate the mung beans today, finally. They were good. They didn't taste all that beany, but I enjoyed them.

  5. I have absolutely no problem getting rid of stuff. If it doesn't serve me or if it doesn't bring me joy it's gone.

    1. How about if it was a gift from a loved one that's passed? But, you no longer found the item useful?

    2. It would likely be gone. Unless it was something I would want to pass on that was very special. For instance, I have a book of my Memories written by my nana.

    3. Oh, a book of memories. That's a lovely treasure. For sure worth the keep.

      Thanks, Birdie :-)

  7. Hell, my sister sells my gifts at garage sales. I've learned not to take it personally, LOL!

  9. I just donated some things to our church's annual rummage sale. Now I can actually get into our storeroom.

Collin and I are like the Odd Couple. I'm Felix and he's Oscar. I keep trying to get rid of stuff, he keeps getting more stuff.

    1. I hear that a lot too, one family member brings in the other donates out. Thanks for sharing.

  10. I do feel a little guilty, but in light of the fact I'm moving, downsizing is necessary and donating is a great way to help others.

    1. What's been the most challenging part in getting rid of stuff and packing up?

  11. Good for you, Wonder Woman! I love it. We tend to overload our homes with stuff we don't want or need, and then just store it away. I've absolutely no trouble getting rid of things, most of which is donated. I like a very minimalistic existence. I feel so liberated when I'm not weighed down by stuff!

    1. Hi Valerie. What do you find to be the most stinky bits?

  13. When we sold our house and downsize, I was putting piles of stuff by the road with a sign: FREE

The pile kept desapearing. At the end, even the FREE sign was gone...

    1. I love it, the FREE sign was gone. That's great. Another great thing about downsizing is now we don't need as big of a place it/when we move.

      I love that.

      Thanks for stopping by.

  14. The day I bit the bullet and sold all my un-finished crafting bits and bobs along with all my craft supplies at a car boot sale with boxes and boxes of unwanted things from our home was the best ever.

The women that pounced on the boxes of crafting things admitted that their purchases would just be added to their 'to do' lists it made me smile. My 'to do' list was just gone and I felt so liberated :-)

    1. Great comment and I thank you for writing it. I agree with you. It's liberating to a whole new level.

I see those few boxes of just the fabric that I love and I am excited to get to making a quilt. Where before, when I had alllll that fabric, that just in case, stuff, I didn't have the energy or will to quilt.

But now, I'm free. Free, I say, FREE.

    Books and fabric for starters.

    1. I understand. Books and fabric were once the hardest for me as well. But ocne I dug in, it got easier and easir and now, the new space and freedom, well, it beats fabric and books any day of the week.

  16. I do have a good sort out every now and then and donate ...

We have a wonderful hospice nearby and they are usually my number one charity stop to donate and even buy a few more books !!!

You can never have too many books can you?

    All the best Jan
