  1. If you had cans laying around for years after their expiration date, why would you buy more?

Unless you have been stock piling in case of Armageddon but if that happen, would one care about the date?

    1. How about for when zombies take over the world? We could use the old cans to knock the monsters in the head. Although, I don't know if that would really work.

  2. Yeah, same with boxed goods. Even meat can go way past its expiration date so long as you froze it before the date. The texture will be wonky, but you won't get sick.

  3. Yep! Same thing with the amount of laundry detergent recommended per load. It's too much so you'll go through the jug quicker and have to buy more sooner. Awesome tip, Ivy! Way to get the word out! :)

  4. Let's face it you can buy things prior to the expiry date which go rotten before that date anyway.

  5. Years ago when I was feeding three growing boys I never had trouble using food up before the expiration date. Now that there's fewer people in the house I occasionally find a can that's past. I use it anyway. Never had a problem yet.

  6. the best buy date is usually for optimal taste, it can still be good for awhile to point where it's still healthy to eat.

When I used to work for a grocery store, by the time I left they had started a program where a food bank would come by every couple of days to pick up expired goods. Some stuff like poultry, juice, cut fruit, and a few others were considered too high risk to be donated. Then they had another company come by to pick up basically any kind of scrap of produce to be converted into compost.

  8. I think, best by, is when it will taste it's best. But you can eat food past it date. Not sure about 10 years later but why not ? Just as long as the can is not bulging.

  9. Canned food can last a lot longer than the sell by date. Although, I'm a bit reluctant to open my can of Heinz baked beans, best before date, end of July, 1975.

A good rest of your weekend and thank you for your kind comment on my site.
