Friday Question: Soup

I love making and eating soups but there are two kinds that I won't eat. Canned soup and soups made with cow's milk.

For canned soups, they can stick all the organic labels they want, the ingredients still have the texture of already been chewed, food.

So gross.

As for milk-based soups, even as a kid I hated cow milk and would not drink it. Heat the stuff up in a soup and yuck. I'd rather eat my own vomit.

Also gross.

FQ: What's your least favorite soup?

  1. I think any meat based soup out of a can is pretty nasty. Meat out of a can period is gross.

  2. Do you have a web cam in my house?

This week for the first time in 20 years, we had a can of vegetable soup. I thought it would change from the usual. Yerk! will not repeat that ever!

  3. Soups are quick and easy to make it always surprises me that people buy them in cans or cartons! I dislike canned tomato soup in particular - seems to have an unpleasant acidic/metallic taste. Favourite - a fresh spring Minestrone with asparagus, green beans and baby carrots.

  4. I do use canned soup, for convenience, but love making my own too. I don't drink a lot of the cream soups due to my milk intolerance.

  5. I'm not a big fan of soups anyway. (Although never considered any of them vomit.) I don't do beef, so I guess beef soup would be my least favorite. Or is that considered stew?
And thanks for posting my book cover, Ivy - you rock!!

  8. Okay, I have to admit, I eat canned soup. It's easy and has less calories than some other pre-packaged food I can eat (remember, I don't cook).

My least favorite (and of course, it's my husband's favorite) is clam chowder (whether canned or fresh). Don't like clams, so that would be why. One of the best soups I've had was the beef vegetable soup at Bob Evans. That is some TASTY soup. Probably because it doesn't come from a can, huh? :)

  9. I confess to adoring canned soup and also a boxed chicken noodle soup called Mrs. Grass. I never say no to chicken noodle, cream of chicken, tomato or beef.

  12. That question was not the one I was expecting! I can't say I every met a soup I didn't like, variants yes. I don't care too much for canned soups. The broth is always so wonky.

  13. I don't like vegetable soup in a can. That stuff grosses me out. I like homemade vegetable soup, though.

  14. Thick homemade vegetable soup for me. Saying that, I've never bought canned soup in my life. Nor have I had soup with milk in it ...

I love it but rarely make it now.
My favorite is roast any veg add chicken broth and then blend it all up. Sometimes I like adding some miso to it. Also parsnip and apple.

  17. I never eat soups from a can. I make loads of soups and freeze them, we always have lots of soup available, just as well whilst I was sick recently. I use milks, creams and sour creams in some of my soups. Each to his own. Matt says I make soup out of anything. Haven't tried grass yet LOL

  18. There's nothing like homemade soup. Making a huge batch and freezing it for several servings is the best.

  20. I can do canned chicken noodle soup in a pinch and that is it. I love all sorts of soups. My favorite soup I ever made was a fish chowder, but it was milk based, so I'm guessing it would be high on the vomit scale for you. :)
