My Husband Broke My Computer

It was a crappy desk top that made more noise than a jet engine.  I hated that thing.  Now we're on the hunt for a new one, thinking laptop this time.  Did some looking over the weekend and so far, all the laptop keyboards sucked.

I have a laptop that I love, we bought it years ago and it's NEVER been online.  It's only 2 gigs but was purchased solely for writing.  Thought I could put it online but I can't.  I enjoy my alone writing time too much to bring the Internet in.

That said, I found a few more places that sell Windows 7 laptops, going to check them out this week.  Until then, you guys won't see much of me on the blogs.  But I'll still post each day and you can reach me on email.

In other news, we're headed toward our mini-staycation.  Can't wait.  Got a good bit of chores done yesterday, getting the rest done today.  Then Wednesday I hit the market for ingredients.  That's all from me.   I'll catch up on all your blogs once I get my new computer up and running.

Until then, cheers and boogie boogie.

  1. If you can get a Windows 7, that would be best. Windows 8 has too many issues. Hang on to your keyboard. Might need it again some day soon.
    Enjoy staycation.

  4. Does your dislike of laptop keyboard apply to the ones that have a numeric keyboard built in? I looked at those and typed on a couple recently. Much better feel than then narrower laptops without.

I would stay away from Windows 8 but Windows 8.1 is pretty solid. I have both 8.1 and 7 at home. For my son's desktop I built it from scratch so I didn't have a problem with crapware. For the Dell tablet I got I spent about a half hour removing the preinstalled crap and it worked fine.

Finally if you and Tim feel up to building your own try this site. http://pcpartpicker.com/

It should appeal to your coupon side as it aggreates the deals from all the major computer sites including Amazon. Right now the pendulum has swung back to scratch built pcs as being the best value. The downside being assembling your own doesn't appeal to everybody.

    1. Wow, Rob. Thanks for this comment.

My writing (non-online), laptop is an old oldToshiba. The keys are bigger than my wireless desktop keyboard. No numbers pad.

That being said, I'll look out for laptops that are narrower. Because I didn't pay attention enough to know what it was. Just didn't feel comfortable.

Wait, I forgot, one keyboard kept eating my sentences and deleting entire paragraphs as I type. The clerk said it was how my hands were on the mouse pad bit. That doesn't happen to me on my Tohshiba. I love that laptop. So comfy.

I like the idea of building my own but lack the skill and knowledge.

Thanks again for the thoughtful comment. Very cool that you were able to build your own.

      Cheers and boogie boogie.

  8. My hubby can't stand his Windows 8 at work. We have Macs at home and love them! Only one Windows computer at home for the Peanut. Best of luck finding a new computer and enjoy your staycation

  9. Oh, I know this feeling! I've learned to leave it all to my son. He knows far more about computers than I ever will. He bought our current computer online, along with a desk and chair.

    1. Don't you need to feel the keyboard for yourself though? I totally gotta have a good board (and good chair), or I won't work there. And then it's just a pile of money lost.

Hope all is well with you.

  10. UGH....computer troubles! And shopping for a new system is a pain, but we have no choice if we want to stay connected. I hope you find a great laptop. I really like them, but because my desktop is going strong, there's no reason yet to head that way. Some time in the future...

Enjoy your mini staycation! I hope it's awesome.

    1. That's why I wasn't upset when my desktop finally bit the big one. I'm like you, no sense in getting a new one if the old one was working. But Hubs took care of that.

How goes your last week of staycation?

  11. My laptop has been dieing for the last 3 years. So just bought the small tabletop computer at apple but bought everything else at SWS for 1/4 the price.I have a 22inch screen that with my eyes I can see ! No more laptops for me.
My Samsung 5 is big enough to act like a tablet.

    Good luck computer shopping
I have 3 kids who know just about everything so I just sit back and let them do the shopping.

    cheers, parsnip

    1. I don't know what SWS is but for a quarter of the price, sounds pretty rootin' tootin' good.

I'm a writer so I want a comfortable keyboard. That's something that involves me testing them in person. Found one that's not too bad today.

  13. Computers can be such pains! Remember the good old days, when there were no such things, and we actually spent time out there in the real world? ;0) Good luck getting a new one!

    1. I tell ya, I spend a great deal of time unplugged and I love it. But yeah, I know what you mean. I think about my grandparents and all they got done in one day, without the Internet.

  17. Sorry to hear about the computer. John's laptop unexpectedly died last week. We had a hand-me-down computer from my brother and John is trying to make it work for him. So far so good - here's hoping this one lasts.
