Please Help! Ants Every Flippin' Where

We have a nasty bunch of big fat juicy black ants, every flippin' funkin' where.  I kill them, and turn around and nine more appear.  We get them each spring but this spring, they're bigger, and far more aggressive.

Does anyone else have this problem and if so, have you found a safe way of getting rid of them?  Safe as in areas by food and dogs.

Happy Sunday.  Thanks and boogie boogie.

  1. You might have to buy an ant trap- it's a poison that'll off the ants. They take it back to their colony.

    1. I've been afraid to try those for fear of poison feet walking from the counter, back to their home. But I might just have to give it a go. Thanks.

  2. We've only battled ants outside, not in the house. We used this liquid spray poison with the charming name of "Doctor Death." Doubt if that would be good in your situation.

    1. Something to look into though, thanks. Because they're outside too. This year, we have more than I've ever seen.

      Thanks.

    1. I've been using the Dyson vacuum. Starting to feel like I'm the aardvark. I hate these ants, they are making me batty.

    1. It's the poison from the traps that concerns me, with their little feet walking all over everything.

You have a good week too. Cooking or baking anything special this week?

  5. You have to kill the queen to get rid of them for good. Make a homemade solution with borax. It's cheap to do. And super effective. I've done it in the past, and the results were permanent. Here's a link with the recipe:
How to Get Rid of Ants with Three Ingredients

It'll take a few days, and you may even see more ants for a very short period, but then they'll start to lessen until they disappear.

After they're gone, seal the area they were entering from. If you don't know where it is, follow the trail. They use the same one going back and forth.

    1. Thanks, Martha. I will check out this link as well. I'd love to kill that queen. Which sounds mean but I've had enough.

This trailer isn't big enough for all of us. The ants, gotta go.

      Thanks and Happy Monday.

    1. Thanks. I'm hearing a lot about Borax and it's sold in town but I've never used it before. Think someone told me once, that it's been around forever too.

      Thanks.

Diatomaceous earth. They bring it back to the Queen and she dies. Totally safe around pets and children.

  8. Cinammon works to deter them. Put a little over were they enter and it will keep them out. Borax and peanut butter in a 50/50 mix works as well if you put it around their holes.

    1. We have two dogs that love, love, love and I mean go bat crap crazy over peanut butter. Cinnamon trick I've used but found it didn't work. Might try again with the new batch. Thanks.

  9. also try to keep control of any water. They actually need water more than food. Used a garden hose to wash dirt off my porch and they were all over it soon after.

  10. Some research has been done about ants and techniques to get rid of them.

If you can't move or kill the queen, you won't get rid of them. Poison might buy you a few hours or days. Ants just don't go away, and they are literally taking over parts of texas.

    1. Taking over parts of Texas? Holy crap. That's horrible.

This year I noticed we don't have as many spiders, and too many ants.

  11. I want to say there is a way to attack them with sugar water than they drown. Hang on, I'm gonna look it up…umm, yeah…maybe not so much. It requires boric acid.

Not sure how that works with the dogs but I wouldn't dig it. I'm having my termite guy come out on Wednesday. In addition to ants, I found possible termites yesterday in our tree garden. Stupid mulch.

    Good luck!

    1. Oh no, sorry to hear about termites. My gosh. Hope they get them gone for you.

Are you finding a larger amount of ants in your area this spring? Also, we have a decline in spiders this spring too. Not sure why?

  12. Hope you find something that works and is safe for the dogs to be around.
